The pitch-variation comes from the signal practically constantly speeding up and slowing down.chorus does something different. the pitch gets oscillated too.This is quite literally the definition of a chorus effectfrom what I gather, it delays the signal about 35 ms and uses a low-frequency oscillator to vary that delay time back and forth, then re-introduces the original signal to the delayed signal.
